Social Media & Marketing Policy
NI Private Speech Therapy
1. Purpose
This policy outlines how NI Private Speech Therapy will use social media and marketing platforms in a professional, ethical, and lawful way. It aims to protect client confidentiality, maintain professional boundaries, and uphold the reputation of the speech and language therapy profession.
2. Scope
This policy applies to all online and offline promotional activities undertaken by NI Private Speech Therapy including:

Social media accounts (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X/Twitter).

The practice website or blog.

Email newsletters and online advertising.

Printed materials (flyers, business cards, posters).
3. Professional Standards

Uphold the HCPC Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics and RCSLT guidance on social media use.

Maintain professional boundaries online and avoid forming personal relationships with clients or their families through social media.

Ensure that all published information is accurate, evidence-based, and within professional competence.

Never post content that could bring the profession into disrepute.
4. Confidentiality and Data Protection

No identifiable client information, images, or case examples will be shared on social media or marketing materials without explicit written consent.

Where examples of therapy practice are shared, they will be anonymised and generalised.

All personal data used for marketing (e.g. email lists) will be handled in accordance with the UK GDPR and the practice’s Data Protection Policy.

Client testimonials will only be published with written consent and reviewed to ensure no identifiable information is disclosed.
5. Content and Branding

All online and printed materials will reflect the professionalism and values of the practice.

Language and imagery will be inclusive, respectful, and representative of diverse clients.

Any affiliations or sponsored content (if applicable) will be clearly disclosed.

Marketing will focus on providing information, raising awareness, and sharing professional insights rather than making guarantees of outcomes.
6. Managing Social Media Interactions

Direct client communication should not take place via social media platforms. Clients will be directed to official communication channels (e.g. email or phone).

Comments or messages received through social media will be responded to professionally and within appropriate boundaries.

Negative or inappropriate comments will be handled calmly and, if necessary, removed or reported.
7. Review and Compliance
This policy will be reviewed annually or sooner if there are changes in legislation, HCPC/RCSLT guidance, or professional best practice.
